Fingers on cruise control, ' EMAIL SEND' brain in neutral

01 May 2009 - Follow this useful guide 'A Safety Net for the Send Button' to be able to retract what you have just emailed in Outlook. Whatsmore nobody need be none the wiser !

2 minutes after having sent that email, ever wished you perhaps hadn't ? Or how about realising, usually straight after hitting the 'SEND' button, that you've forgotten to add the very attachment that you were mentioning ? Or perhaps you're thinking 'That last paragraph was a little bit ambiguous and now I'll have to send a follow up email just to make sure that it's not picked up the wrong way' ? Email sending is like that; the written equivalent of the spoken 'mouth in gear, brain in neutral !'

The truth is that this wee fix to prevent such aggravations was always there within the bowels of the Outlook program but unless you worked for Microsoft or wrote books on Outlook all day long then you'd be hard pressed to know about it. Technology is way too much like that; designed by techies for techies with little thought for the people who are the day to day users.

Here at last, is a simple solution to that foot in mouth problem. Follow this link for a step by step account for - A Safety Net for the Send Button and here it is again in a visual step-by-step form

Exceptions to the Rule !

If you've followed the links above then these additonal steps take care of those times when you just 'Have to send an email immediatley'. In these situations I mark the email 'High Importance'

add the 'Exception' below and you wil bypass the 'Delay Rule'

Just one more fine detail, 'Click' on the 'importance' aspect of the rule and you are given three choices

Outlook 'High Importance' selection

select 'High Importance' and you're done.
