04 December 2008 - Skype is a software application that when it was first launched in 2003 allowed you to make free, high quality phone calls to other similarly equipped Skype users. For a limited time we have 40 headsets (additional headsets can be purchased at £5) to give away to help you experience the wonder of sending/receiving calls via your computer. Besides being able to make Skype-to-Skype call via the internet the service has grown to now provide a relative cornucopia of useful tools for business that include:
Calls to regular landlines and mobile phones - all from your computer and at reasonable rates.
- Video and voice conferencing - speak and see multiple colleagues, friends, family across the country really useful for keeping in touch with distant relatives and its free.
- Instant messaging - sending typed text that is far easier and quicker than email and text messages
- SkypeIn - the ability to call a local number via your mobile, then have that automatically connect to a pre-assigned telephone number anywhere in the the world paying Skype rate eg. 2p/min to the USA, not the mobile rate. The mobile rate part of the call is the call you made to the local 'SkypeIn' number which, with most mobile calling plans, could be free.
- Skype on your mobile - for when you are away from your PC (or MAC) all of the above presented via your mobile phone. A real boost for keeping in touch with the office and customers when you're out of the office.
We find Skype an incredible boost to our business For one thing, we get an extra phone line that we use to make external phone calls that then keeps one of our incoming lines free for clients.
To benefit as we have, as mentioned previously, we will send you a set of headphones and in addition also help you with the installation of the Skype software so you don't have to do anything and all for free ! Only two caveats:
